Thoughts on Homebirth

  • Home birth is not less safe than hospital birth for low risk women when planned.

  • Labour is not disrupted when there is no move to hospital.

  • Intervention is less likely in the home environment.

  • Birth is a normal life event and when at home, can be shared with whomever the mother wishes.

  • Birth at home allows parents to interact with their new baby without interference.

  • Any situations outside of the usual parameters may be more easily supported in the home environment.

  • Every woman has the right to have her baby at home if she so wishes regardless of medical opinion.
